Plus: June is Pride Month. Here is How You Can Discuss it With Older Children

🌈A Promise from God: Acknowledgement

I tell you, whoever publicly acknowledges me before others, the Son of Man will also acknowledge before the angels of God.

A Crazy Week and A Wedding

Life Lately

This Friday’s newsletter will be a little different.

Life has been crazy for me the past few days, mostly due to a wedding I was helping with that took place Memorial Day weekend (for a young lady who attends a Bible study my husband and I do at our home). I ended up being the wedding coordinator, MC and photographer…although this was a small wedding (65 guest) I wouldn’t recommend doing this to anyone UNLESS you absolutely love logistics, planning, and are OK with handling difficult family dynamics…and of course you have to LOVE to the bride and groom…and I do! So this was an honor and privilege for me. Needless to say, this was a 4 day ordeal (after weeks of planning) between decorations, leading rehearsals, last minute changes, and the wedding itself. It took a whole 2 days to recover (my husband included; as he was holding down the home front by himself).

The funniest moment of the wedding: When the bride asked me if I knew where her wedding dress was…I did not. But we found it 🙂 Later followed by the groom asking me if I knew were the rings were…I also did not! But we found them as well 🙃 Gotta love it!

So I’ll leave you with short but important note on what’s happening tomorrow (June 1) and a simple list of “Cool Things from the Internet”. I hope to return to regular, full NCM content next week!

Love,

-Andrea

Short Read, Big Gains

The world says June is Pride/LGBTQ+ Month.

The Axis publication provides a GREAT video resource to give you ideas on how to dicuss this with older children from a Christian perspective.

From Axis, “Tomorrow is June 1, which means social media will soon be filled with rainbow-colored brand logos and flag-adorned profile pictures. For Christian parents, Pride Month often means having more conversations with teens about sexuality, gender identity, and LGBTQ+ people. At Axis, we believe God’s design for sexuality is good and holy. We also understand that it can feel daunting to wade through the multitude of cultural conversations to really speak to the heart of the teens in our lives and point to the freedom and joy God offers us. In our 7 Minute Video on Pride Month, we discuss the origins of the celebration, the ways that it relates specifically to Gen Z, and how the love of Jesus is available to all people, even those who don’t live by His teachings.”

Cool Things from the Internet

Did you know you can bake a cake in the rice cooker? This may be a great solution to avoid using the oven and keep your kitchen cool in the summer months.

Giving birth soon and want to approach it from a fresh perspective? Check out Ina May’s Guide to Childbirth to learn about childbirth NOT as a medical event or disease.

A safe search engine alternative to Google for your older kids to use: Freespoke displays no adult content and aims to show all viewpoints when it comes to the news. If you click on their “shop” option on the top left, you’ll be directed to their Shop USA site where you can shop US made products.

The most recommended sex-ed book series for the Christian parent (three books to read to your kids in stages from ages 6-14). “The Talk series of books will walk you through introducing your child to Biblical sexuality, helping make sense of the changes that happen through puberty, and help your kids navigate the sexual temptations that arise in the teen and adult years.”

Recommended weekend watch: Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones. What’s great about this documentary is it goes well beyond nutrition and into lifestyle habits we can apply today to better steward our bodies.
